With March break just around the corner, your clients will need more than just sunscreen to protect them while travelling. Should an unfortunate event occur, prepare your clients with the following tips:
1. Get the right coverage. There are no one-size-fits-all travel plans. There are two main parts of travel plans medical and non medical coverage. Medical coverage includes services such as air ambulance, private duty nursing and trip interruption. Non medical coverage includes trip cancellation and lost baggage. Find out what coverage your client is looking for before their next trip and suggest the best fit.
2. Accuracy is important. Ensure medical questions are completed in their entirety. This is imperative to ensure complete and efficient claim processing.
3. Annual vs. per trip Coverage. Encourage clients who travel more than once a year to consider annual policies to save money and the hassle of enrolling every time.
4. Insurance isn’t only for those crossing the border. As government health care is determined by province, clients visiting other provinces need protection as well. The cost of an ambulance might be covered in Ontario, but not in another province.
5. Read the fine print. Encourage clients to bring a copy of their policy with them on their trip. Clarify any limitations with the carrier. Limitations can include: trip duration, activity restriction and/or age limits for travelling dependant children.
